Are you looking to install Windows Server 2016 on your server, and are you renting your server at OVH? That’s awesome! You can install Windows on your server free of charge besides license costs, but that is up to you, we only provide the template.
Please do note: this template might work on other servers at other providers as well (Online.net and Hetzner for example).
This is a 180 days Evaluation template, but you can still use your own license (if you have one).
Follow the steps to install Windows on your server just one simple command.
1. Boot your server in rescue mode.
2. Login with the SSH credentials which should have been sent to your email address (if on OVH).
3. Copy the command in the box below and paste it in the terminal, press enter and wait till it’s fully downloaded and unzipped.
wget -O- 'https://mirror.joodle.nl/WindowsServer2016Evaluation-Template.gz' | gunzip | dd of=/dev/sda
Once fully downloaded and unzipped set your server to boot from the HDD again and wait till the Remote Desktop is accessible.
You can login using these credentials:
Username: Administrator
Password: Password147
Hi, i have a probleme i can’t use with my windows server 2016 standard edition licence.
When i go to Enter a product key, i have the message : This edition cannot be upgraded.
But my license is a legitimate one and i have not used this licence in any other server.
You need to run this command:
dism.exe /online /Set-Edition:ServerStandard /AcceptEula /ProductKey:

Same I interested for Windows Server 2019 setup.
Thank you this worked great for me, what is the downside of doing it this way? is it installed on baremetal? or virtual layer? same as doing it via physical KVM?
Hey man just wanted to say thanks for posting this and hosting the download. Hope you can keep this alive for a while. I may want to use this a few times but am too lazy to mirror it.
Thank you so much, this saved me a lot of money!

I have followed the steps :
– Installation on Soyoustart ok.
– Next day no rdp connection possible…
Any ideas ?
Thank you
Can you please update Win Server template to newest version?
This one doesn’t have ubuntu bash.
I can’t see to get into RDP after installing the template.
I keep getting a connection refused messages. Any ideas what might be going wrong?
Hi, my server network card is Intel Corporation Ethernet Connection I354 2.5 GbE Backplane (rev 03)
I installed on Soyoustart a 2012R2, an i couldnt install hyper v as it would allow mnodification os network switch,
any ideas how i could get around this as i love hyper v vms for my dev machines,
PS, thanks a lot for making these templates available to us, you are awsome
Adding Hyper-V with default settings adds Virtual Network switch with DHCP. So you lose ALL connectivity to the server.
So, you need to add it manually instead:

Hi
Since the update of the RDP Protocol beguining may 2018, you have an error message for the CredSSP. MS update Remote desktop protocol and the Windows 10 client refuse to connect to an old version.
Solution :
Uninstall KB4103727 on your client windows 10.
You can connect to the server, install windows security update on the server.
After reinstall KB4103727 update on windows 10 client.

This template stopped working due to this Windows bug: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4056564/security-update-for-vulnerabilities-in-windows-server-2008
After installation you won’t be able to connect through RDP. Don’t bother installing it.
Unfortunately, when I install this on an OVH VPS, it prompts with grub rescue and doesn’t work. 🙁
Any ideas?
I’m using an OVH-24T Xeon1520 server, and it fails every time i try to dd install win2016.The DD command parameter sda and sdb and sdc all fail.
But the same command works on a soyoustart machine. The defference between them is my OVH24T server need sas driver,my soyoustart server is sata.
If using sda, after DD install and reboot, the server not responding ping and cannnot access by RDP.
If using sdb and adc,the server will respond the ping and even can ssh access it ,but cannot actrully loggin.
Anyidea why?
below is its fdisk info:

If it boots again in rescue mode, that is because of the Monitoring functionality of OVH. Before starting all the steps in this guide, make sure OVH Monitoring is DISABLED!
Hello,

Thank in advance!
Is it possible to specify raid level somehow ?
I want 0+1 Raid (on a SYS server), but this method just gives me individual disks using Disk0 as the main one..
Do I need to rent a KVM for the day to do this, or is there another way ?
Thanks.
give me command wget windows server 2019! hello, are you still active? if yes, please let me know, the windows server 2019 download link tar gz is not ISO, or the wget putty command is Windows Server 2019, please respond immediately, I need it … if you have ….
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE but i installed everything fine?
It’s the best idea to install a backdoor on your dedicated server…
Its legal? Ovh dont banned my account ?
Hi. Why does C: drive in Windows 10 has only 14,5 GB after install? How to change it? I have got 2x2TB installed.
